Beta Balance Changes – MARVEL Fighting Souls
MARVEL Fighting Souls Beta 3 balance changes explained — tag speed, Link Attack fixes, Wall Break updates, and combo limit adjustments.
Beta 3 for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls arrived March 20, 2026 with Magik, Wolverine, and Danger joining the roster alongside significant system-level changes. Arc System Works responded to community feedback from Beta 1 and Beta 2 with adjustments aimed at increasing game speed, improving combo diversity, and refining the assist ecosystem.
These changes represent the development team's commitment to iterative balancing before the August 6 launch. Understanding Beta 3 adjustments prepares you for the July Open Beta and launch-day meta.
Tag and Assist System Changes
Tag assist received dedicated buttons separate from general Assemble functions. Startup frames and animation duration for tagging were shortened across all characters, noticeably increasing match pace. Players can cancel into non-rush assists during block strings, and hitstop during assist callouts was reduced.
Aerial assist behavior changed character-by-character, with the landmark addition of calling ground assists while airborne. Super Skill supers no longer cause Wall Break when hitting corners — after a Wall Break, opponents enter hard knockdown without tech roll options.
Link Attack and Combo Limit Fixes
Link Attacks (auto-combos) no longer trigger on whiff, fixing a Beta 2 issue where mashing forward produced full combo strings from missed attacks. Link Attacks now require the initial hit to connect before the auto-combo sequence activates.
Aerial combos no longer increase the combo limit counter as aggressively as before, allowing more juggles before the combo scaling cap ends your sequence. Combined with faster tags and new assist rules, Beta 3 points toward longer and more creative aerial combo routes.
Impact on Competitive Meta
These system changes elevate team composition importance over individual character strength. Characters with strong ground assists (Doctor Doom, Captain America) gained value from aerial assist calling. Rushdown characters benefit from faster tag speeds for seamless pressure transitions.
Expect further adjustments based on Open Beta data from July 24–26. Arc System Works has demonstrated responsive patching throughout the beta period, and launch-day balance will likely differ from current Beta 3 values.
