Gameplay Changes Update – MARVEL Fighting Souls

MARVEL Fighting Souls gameplay changes breakdown — dedicated tag buttons, faster animations, aerial assist improvements, and combo system updates.

Arc System Works released official gameplay footage demonstrating the system-level changes implemented in Beta 3 of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. These updates address the most common community feedback from Beta 1 and Beta 2, focusing on match pace, assist versatility, and combo system refinement.

The footage showcases Storm, Iron Man, Doctor Doom, and Magik on one team against Spider-Man, Captain America, Danger, and Wolverine — providing real match context for every change described in the official patch notes.

Dedicated Buttons and Faster Tags

Tag and assist functions received dedicated button assignments, a welcome change from the shared Assemble approach in earlier betas. Tag startup frames and animation duration were reduced across all characters, visibly increasing the pace of tag cancels during combos and defensive switches.

The footage demonstrates Storm performing tornado pressure into rapid tag cancels that would have been too slow in Beta 2. Faster tags make 4v4 team battles feel more fluid and reward aggressive team rotation strategies.

Assist Cancels and Aerial Combos

New assist cancel rules allow calling non-rush assists from block strings and during combos. The footage shows Storm calling Doctor Doom's ground laser assist from an aerial position — a technique that creates entirely new combo routes and mix-up opportunities.

Aerial combo limit consumption was adjusted to allow more juggles before the scaling cap ends sequences. Combined with faster tags and expanded assist rules, the footage demonstrates noticeably longer and more creative aerial combo sequences than previous beta versions.

What This Means for Launch

These changes indicate Arc System Works is targeting a faster, more assist-driven meta than initially tested. Characters with strong ground assists gained significant value, shifting tier placements for Doctor Doom, Captain America, and Iron Man.

The Open Beta from July 24–26 will be the first public test of these finalized systems before launch. Use our Open Beta guide to participate and form your own assessment of how these changes feel in extended play sessions.
